Train Services

Britain’s train companies have boosted their timetables to help get more than 8 million people to and from the 2012 Games. Every day during the 2012 Games, we will be running more trains with more carriages and provide over 100 extra services that will start earlier in the morning and finish later at night - a record breaking effort to help get you to your Games event on time.

National Rail services during the Games

Over 100 extra train services will be added each day to the regular timetable during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Trains will run with more carriages to help provide additional capacity at busy times.

Train services will start earlier to help you to get to your Games venue in time. There will also be extra train services running later at night from London to key cities, for example:

  • Depart London at 00.30 for Newcastle
  • Depart London at 00.45 for Leeds
  • Depart London at 01.00 for Liverpool Lime Street
  • Depart London at 01.00 for Cardiff Central
  • Depart London at 01.10 for Birmingham New Street
  • Depart London at 01.30 for Manchester Piccadilly

Capacity into Stratford station has been increased by more than 350% at peak times and extra train services will run to and from London Liverpool Street to help get people to the Olympic Park.

The special high speed Javelin® service will run between London St Pancras International and Stratford International. Ten trains an hour will depart St Pancras for the Olympic Park.

Please note:

  • Rail services to Weymouth are expected to be extremely busy. Park-and-ride is the recommended option for spectators attending these Games events from outside of the Weymouth area. See london2012.com/travel for further details of travel options to Games events in Weymouth.
  • Some Southeastern timetables are still subject to alterations and have not been finalised. Updated timetables will be presented in the journey planner as and when they are confirmed.

Travelling in and around London is often busy and during the London 2012 Games there will be additional pressure on the transport network.

When planning your travel around London you will need to allow plenty of time to transfer between transport services and be prepared for queues, particularly into and out of Games venues and the recommended stations for venues.
